Personal Training has been around along time.? Only recently in the last decade has it become a common phase within the fitness industry and general public.? It has become more affordable for everyone; it?s not just for celebrities anymore.

Personal Training is a personal or private health and fitness session with a qualified fitness instructor, also known as a Personal Trainer or Exercise Professional, it?s their job to educated and teach health and fitness to you the client.

The Personal Trainer will look at your individual health and fitness levels, diet and nutrient.? They will access your goals and prescribe an individual fitness programme to help motivate you to achieve it, whether they are for weight loss, bodybuilding, sport specific training or just general health and fitness, a Personal Trainer should be able to help.

A Personal Trainer will teach the you the how to get the most out of your time in the gym or at home, there is no need to spend many hours a day down the gym to achieve your goals, you will over train yourself and burn out.? They will educate you the importance of living a healthy lifestyle as well as exercising correctly.? Too many people don?t know how to exercise correctly and safely and end up giving up or worse, getting injured.

In the UK Personal Trainers have to follow certain guidelines set by the Register of Exercise Professionals.? This is called the Code of Ethical Conduct.? All Personal Trainers whether they are registered with REPs or not, should understand this code and practice it.

Here are the five principles to the code:

  1. ?Exercise professionals should deal openly and in a transparent manner with their clients. They should at all times adopt the highest degree of professionalism in dealing with their clients needs.?
  2. ?Exercise professionals will seek to nurture healthy relationships with their customers and other health professionals?
  3. ?Exercise professionals will demonstrate and promote a responsible lifestyle and conduct?
  4. ?Exercise professionals will seek to adopt the highest level of professional standards in their work and the development of their career?
  5. ?Exercise professionals will systematically prepare for all activities ensuring the safety of their clients is of paramount consideration?

Personal Training sessions will vary in many different ways, it all depends on the trainer and what you want to achieve.? Most trainers have their own approach for what is best for you.? Sessions normally last for one hour and could consist of any of the following; Cardiovascular, Strength, Endurance, Body Building, Pre and Post Natal or Flexibility training.? The trainer might ask you do perform various tests to determine your level of fitness.? They most certainly should take your blood pressure and ask a few health and lifestyle questions to rule out any serious medical conditions they may have detrimental consequences.? At the end of the session your trainer would normally review the session and prescribe the next one, which could be on your own or with the trainer again.

Do you need a Personal Trainer?

Are you are lacking the will power and motivation, have you reached a plateau or do find that you don?t have the time?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Personal Training is most likely for you!

Personal Trainers can also come to you so there is no need to waste valuable time traveling to the gym, they will bring the gym to you.? They will certainly encourage you to exercise more and give you lots of motivation to help break though that plateau you have reached.

Even professional sports people who would answer no to the above questions still use a Personal Trainer for guidance, encouragement and most of all, to be pushed that little bit harder.? I am a Personal Trainer and I love nothing more than training with other trainers.? Training with a friend or a Personal Trainer is always going to be more challenging than training on your own, test it for yourself.
